An artist holds the absolute power to name their own work. Wang Langgou exercised this right in his first conceptual art project by naming his debut poetry collection after an unrelated product and transforming the cover into a complete advertisement for that product. This perfectly logical crossover between art and commerce was named “Forced Crossover.”
“Forced Crossover” includes a poetry collection, a notebook, and a commercial advertisement, along with a commitment: before October 31, 2020, any buyer could resell their used notebook to Wang Langgou at a price 30% higher than the original, encouraging people to read the poetry and participate in the creation of the artwork. After this date, all repurchased and unsellable poetry collections will be destroyed, leaving only one official edition of “Forced Crossover” for exhibition and collection. In this work, the advertisement, poetry collection, and notebook hold equal importance. The first two parts were completed by Wang Langgou himself, while the final part was left for the users to complete.
